Course Description

Play therapy is based in part on the idea that the natural language that children first use is play. We can see through the child’s eyes what they are thinking and feeling. We can see that they are the creators and destroyers of their world through play.  The job of the play therapist is to encourage and support imaginative play to allow youth to work through problems and behaviors in a safe way.  This course will examine and describe the role of creative problem-solving in creating change for the youth. Through the lens of the four therapeutic powers of play and the core change agent of creative problem-solving participants will learn evidence-based interventions that harness imaginative play to improve clinical outcomes.
